With a background in professional writing, music, tennis and education -- there are a number of services that I am able to provide. I can create programs of study for either individuals or businesses. The coursework that I have created for companies in the past has involved providing writing instruction for employees, basic English proficiency development for the ELL population, tennis doubles clinic skills, songwriting classes and more. Diverse program creation within these areas is my specialty.
This writing focus can be offered in a short series of modules or as a longer course. Essentials of researching information and creating ensuing drafts leading toward a finished report are all examined in depth. Style specific instruction to address the specific communication needs of your company will be examined and refined through consulting with your firm in order to create a definite curriculum to meet your exact needs. All writing workshops can be made to custom fit your industry and corporate culture.
I consider myself a life-long student of music and dream of understanding more about all genres and histories of musical directions. For now I keep to an understanding of knowing about classical music and jazz histories, but realizing that my musical proficiency really tends to lie within pop music, blues, and rock styles. I enjoy sharing guitar and bass skills with students of all ages. Most of my students tend to take a lesson once a week or twice a month. I pride myself with taking a client-centered approach -- essentially this means that I will show you what you want to learn (if I know how to produce it!) and I will only suggest some music theory if I feel that it will get you to the next level! Music theory does tend to unlock a new piece of the universe day by day.

Erik Kaarla, MA Professional Writing, MEd. Curriculum Development is an educator and consultant who uses a number of different modalities in helping individuals move faster towards their “correct” life paths. Correct life path refers to the direction that an individual wants to consciously and directly move in. By using a mixture of writing exercises, philosophical discussion, Buddhist ideas, astrology and cultural musings, Erik strives to find life style connecting cornerstones that may be proving inadequate, unfulfilling and upsetting to the individual. Positive change generally only comes through intense self-examination. Erik believes that the writing process is often a gateway to this knowledge.
.
Here is an actual list of comments that supervisors and colleagues have provided about my teaching:
"Erik is bursting with passion for teaching. He is a great teacher and an even greater person. Way to go Erik!"
"Here at Champlain, a small private college with a career-focus in its curriculum, Erik has repeatedly had excellent evaluations from his teaching. His experience includes a range of courses, all involving some form of communication or expression."
"His assignments and activities are creative and interesting and clearly based on the course objectives. Erik's thorough course descriptions and syllabi include a well-articulated statement of his methodological and philosophical approaches to teaching composition."
" I recommend him in the most superlative terms as a sterling candidate for teaching and curriculum development. He is a warm, bright individual, unfailingly generous with his efforts. He has a rigorous intellect, and is unusually able to hone in on and decipher the unique features of each pupil’s learning style."
"In closing, I would like to mention that one of Erik's greatest strengths is in keeping a very diverse student population working together and moving forward."
